Oregon: The St. Paul Rodeo is set to kick off on July 2, 2024, featuring over $300,000 in prize money.
Last year’s winners took home between $6,000 and $12,000 each, and this year’s competition promises to be just as thrilling.
Here’s what to expect from this year’s event in Oregon.
Format:
- Roughstock Events: Competitors have one chance to post the highest score, with the top scorer being crowned champion.
- Barrel Racing: Similar to roughstock events, a single run determines the champion based on the fastest time.
- Timed Events: Athletes compete twice, and the average time from both runs determines the champion.
What to Watch For:
- Zeke Thurston: The 2023 World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider, currently ranked No. 10 in the world, will be competing on Tuesday night.
- Thurston aims to climb higher in the PRCA World Standings, currently trailing leader Damian Brennan by over $60,000.
- Shane Hanchey: Last year’s Tie-Down Roping Champion will compete on Friday in the Slack event and again in the live performance that night.
- Hanchey has recently jumped to No. 14 in the PRCA standings.
- Keenan Hayes: The World No. 1 in Bareback Riding will defend his title on July 4.
- Hayes’ improved performance gives him a $10,000 lead over third-place finisher Leighton Berry and a $7,000 lead over second-place finisher Coop Cooke.
